Welcome

Welcome to Telework USA.

Almost everything associated with working outside the corporate office is changing. A new world of powerful mobile devices has emerged, and both wireless and wired networks are faster and reach farther.

Working outside the corporate office is difficult, however. Wired and wireless networks for the most part are separate and are administered, managed and expensed differently. The bottom line is that the core technologies have outgrown the systems and procedures that manage them.

This is starting to change, however. Increasingly, the wired and wireless subcategories of remote work are coalescing into a single category, which is telework.

Telework USA — the site and newsletter — tracks industry efforts to enable wired and wireless devices and networks to more efficiently work together. The site and newsletter cover access to data and applications, employee expensing, management/policy, security and other topics. Many sites do this. The difference is that Telework USA does this from the point of view of the employee. And that makes sense, simply because in most cases it is his or her device that is being used. They are the most important part of the process — but the one that is most often overlooked.

I’ll flesh this out as time permits. Until then, take care — and contact me with any questions, comments or ideas.
