Clip of the Day: Band of Gypsys
Here are some telework/telecommute sites. Some, such as Writers Weekly, I can vouch for. This is an unvetted list, however, so beware. I’ll follow up with some (probably unnecessary) warnings and tips. Contact me with others to add to the list.
Of course, there is craigslist.com and the big general job sites such as Monster.
Now, the tips. Really nothing more than common sense. Sometimes the desire to get working and have some money coming in causes people to relax their usual guard. As Robert Stack said when Lloyd Bridges suggested they light the runway for as the airliner approach Airplane! “No… that’s just what they’ll be expecting us to do!” Don’t fall for it.
- Follow your gut. If the site looks shabby and isn’t kept up to date, it may not be legit.
- The same goes for postings.
- Never send money in order to apply for a job, get help finding a job or anything even close to that.
- Make sure the money promised is in line with the work detailed.
- Don’t send your resume—and certainly your Social Security Number or anything like that—until you are sure everything is kosher.
- Use common sense.
